Estudio Parrado's Wing: A Dynamic Shelving System

Modularity and Customization Meet in Award-Winning Design

Estudio Parrado, a design team led by Lilian Parrado and Luisa Parrado, designed the Wing Shelving System to seamlessly integrate into any interior. The system's unique properties lie in its modularity, allowing for dynamic connections and an infinite array of geometric compositions. The perforated base of the shelf enables the exchange of bracket positions, offering numerous variations to suit the space and user's needs.

The Wing's design was inspired by the lightness and dynamism of a flock of birds. This inspiration is reflected in the steel elements that hold the plates, designed to allow for position exchanges, creating a sense of movement and lightness. The Wing is not just a single shelf, but a system designed to fill interior spaces through harmonious combinations.

The Wing Shelving System is realized using CNC technology. The base of the shelf is a perforated plate made of reforested pine wood, while the steel brackets are simply cut and folded triangular pieces. The fastening is achieved through small screws and nuts, allowing for easy assembly and disassembly. The product dimensions are 170mm x 640mm x 220mm (Height x Width x Depth), and it comes in a package measuring 96mm x 665mm x 235mm (Height x Width x Depth).

The design team faced the challenge of creating a system, not just a single shelf, that could harmoniously fill interior spaces. They achieved this through the use of small triangular pieces that connect the shelves and can be used in various ways. The user becomes an essential part of the process, as they can assemble the structure themselves and choose the bracket positions, establishing a connection between the user and the product.

The Wing Shelving System is not just a design triumph but also an award-winning creation. It was awarded the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2018, a prestigious accolade given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The Wing is admired for its strong technical characteristics, splendid artistic skill, and its ability to introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
